The popular sport, basketball, is a game that was invented at Springfield College by James Naismith in 1891. It was invented as a way to help football players burn off energy buildup after the end of the season. At first, the hoops consisted of a peach basket nailed to the lower balcony of the gymnasium. After a few years, it was decided to cut out the bottoms of the baskets to let the ball go through. Basketball started out as a combination of many sports, and there was no dribbling. It is amazing to think about how the game has developed over the years.
